This position is responsible for, but not limited to, managing Cargojet employees’ compensation and benefits system. The duties of the payroll administrator include ensuring the smooth operation of employee payments and carrying out other related duties as required. Compliance with Canadian Labour Code legislation, company policies, and a thorough understanding of payroll practices are essential.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
- Prepare and process biweekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
- Audit hourly employee timecards for accuracy and completeness in the time and attendance system.
- Oversee the proper processing and tracking of paid time off for all employees.
- Import hours into the payroll system from the time and attendance system.
- Maintain employee records and update company information.
- Handle entries for new hires, leaves, terminations, and pay or vacation adjustments.
- Process Reports of Earnings (ROEs) and garnishments.
- Prepare payroll reconciliation reports.
- Ensure timely processing of workers' compensation remittances and reports.
- Ensure compliance with Canada Labour Code legislation.
- Support year-end processing and reporting.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Manage short- and long-term disability claims.
- Update payroll policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide training to employees on payroll systems, including timesheet entry and online pay statement access.
- Prepare management reports and perform data analysis.
- Manage monthly billing from insurance providers and vendors, reviewing for accuracy.
- Process month-end payments for benefits, pensions, RRSP, etc.
- Keep employee files up to date and complete.
- Assist the Human Resources team with ad hoc duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications :
- At least 4 years of payroll administration experience.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of payroll programs and related taxation.
- Experience with payroll software, preferably UKG Kronos or similar workforce management systems.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel.
