Job summary

Indigo is seeking a Specialist, Payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of high-volume hourly and salaried payrolls across Canada, with handling of US payroll as needed. The role collaborates with HR, Finance and store management, and uses UKG and Quinyx tooling, with strong Excel skills.

You will be responsible for payroll accuracy, compliance with legislation, and producing payroll reports and government remittances.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources.
  • 3 years’ experience processing high-volume payroll.
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner preferred.
  • Experience with UKG payroll platform preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal payroll legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Process high-volume payrolls for salaried and hourly employees across Canada in compliance with employment standards legislation and company policies.
  • Process low-volume payroll in the US.
  • Review and upload automated data interfaces (hours, employee changes).
  • Handle employee information changes (hires, terminations, increases).
  • Process quarterly and annual bonus payments and prepare ad hoc payroll reports.
  • Produce Records of Employment and respond to government inquiries.

Job Description

The Specialist, Payroll ensures timely and accurate processing of high-volume hourly and salaried payrolls, including reviewing automated data uploads, processing status change forms, legislated employee remittances, and Records of Employment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional

  • Timely and accurate processing of high-volume payrolls for both salaried and hourly employees across Canada in compliance with employment standards legislation and company policies
  • Timely and accurate processing of low-volume salaried and hourly payroll in the US
  • Review and upload automated data interfaces (hours, employee changes etc.)
  • Receive, review and action employee information changes (hires, terminations, increases)
  • Process quarterly and annual bonus payments
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports
  • Produce Records of Employment; respond to all government agency inquiries
  • Prepare or support manual journal entries, as required
  • Assist with the preparation of government remittances
  • Liaise with human resources or store management teams on payroll issues
  • Maintain personnel files, including filing and/or digitizing
  • Assist with the year-end process and production and distribution of T4s and W2s
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes
  • Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high-tech and high-touch solutions for Indigo’s customers
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them

Qualifications

Work Experience / Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources
  • 3 years’ experience processing high-volume payroll
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner preferred
  • Experience with UKG payroll platform preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs, specifically MS Excel
  • Experience processing US payroll is considered an asset
  • Thorough understanding of payroll practices and related provincial and federal legislation
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and crisis management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to adapt to a quickly changing, fast-paced environment
  • Team player
