Job summary

Squamish Nation is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join the Estx̱wáy̓usem Finance Department within X̱etx̱ítayus Ch'áwch'aw Corporate Services. You will process bi-weekly payroll, payroll administration, and income assistance payments while ensuring compliance with CLC and CRA regulations.

This role requires PCP certification or related studies, 1–2 years of payroll experience, and proficiency with Excel and ADP Workforce Now.

Qualifications

• Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification or related studies.
• 1–2 years of payroll administration experience.
• Experience in computerized payroll environments.
• Proficiency in Excel and ADP Workforce Now preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
• Provide payroll backup support and assist with payroll administration.
• Ensure compliance with Canada Labour Code (CLC), Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, and internal payroll policies.
• Process Income Assistance payments accurately and efficiently.
• Support Distribution (DB) payments for Squamish Nation members.
• Prepare termination payments and Records of Employment (ROEs).
• Process voids, payment corrections, and reissued member payments.
• Complete payroll and account reconciliations to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Assist with annual audit preparation and the compilation of supporting documentation.
• Collaborate closely with Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Membership, and Income Assistance teams.
• Provide responsive customer service and support for payroll-related inquiries.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support the overall success of the Finance Department.

The Squamish Nation is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Specialist to join the Estx̱wáy̓usem Finance Department within X̱etx̱ítayus Ch'áwch'aw Corporate Services.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Payroll, the Payroll Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll, income assistance payments, and related financial transactions. This position supports payroll administration, compliance with legislative requirements, reconciliations, reporting, and collaboration across departments to maintain the integrity of payroll operations and support the financial well-being of employees and community members.

What You’ll Do

Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.

Provide payroll backup support and assist with payroll administration activities.

Ensure compliance with Canada Labour Code (CLC), Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, and internal payroll policies.

Process Income Assistance payments accurately and efficiently.

Support Distribution (DB) payment processing for Squamish Nation members.

Prepare termination payments and Records of Employment (ROEs).

Process voids, payment corrections, and reissued member payments.

Complete payroll and account reconciliations to ensure data integrity and accuracy.

Assist with annual audit preparation and the compilation of supporting documentation.

Collaborate closely with Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Membership, and Income Assistance teams.

What We’re Looking For

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification, related studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

1 to 2 years of experience in payroll administration, reconciliations, and general accounting.

Experience processing payroll in a computerized payroll environment.

Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and payroll best practices.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Experience working with large-scale payroll or accounting systems; ADP Workforce Now experience is preferred.

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.

Professionalism, integrity, emotional intelligence, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people, or experience working in a First Nations environment, is considered an asset.
