Job summary

Indigo is seeking a Payroll Specialist to ensure timely and accurate processing of high‑volume Canadian payrolls and occasional US payrolls, with a strong focus on compliance and data integrity.

You will partner with Human Resources, Finance and Store Management, operate UKG and related systems, prepare ROEs and year‑end filings, and support ad hoc reporting to help Indigo remain a customer‑centric, high‑performing employer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources.
  • 3 years’ experience processing high volume payroll.
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner preferred.
  • Experience with UKG payroll platform preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience processing US payroll is considered an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of payroll practices and related provincial and federal legislation.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, and crisis management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt to a quickly changing, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and upload automated data interfaces (hours, employee changes).
  • Process hires, terminations, increases; respond to inquiries.
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports and year-end filings (ROEs).
  • Produce Records of Employment and respond to government inquiries.
  • Assist with manual journal entries and government remittances.

Job Description
MISSION

The Specialist, Payroll ensures timely and accurate processing of high-volume hourly and salaried payrolls, including review of automated data uploads, processing status change forms, legislated employee remittances and Records of Employment.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS
  • Timely and accurate processing of assigned payrolls
  • Adherence to all relevant government policy and/or legislation

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Functional
  • Timely and accurate processing of high-volume payrolls for both salaried and hourly employees across Canada in compliance with employment standards legislation and company policies
  • Timely and accurate processing of low-volume salaried and hourly payroll in the US
  • Review and upload automated data interfaces (hours, employee changes etc.)
  • Receive, review and action employee information changes (hires, terminations, increases)
  • Process quarterly and annual bonus payments
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports
  • Produce Records of Employment; respond to all government agency inquiries
  • Prepare or support manual journal entries, as required
  • Assist with the preparation of government remittances
  • Liaise with human resources or store management teams on payroll issues
  • Maintain personnel files, including filing and/or digitizing
  • Assist with the year-end process and production and distribution of T4s and W2s
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes
  • Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers

Qualifications
Work Experience / Education / Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources
