Job summary

FGF Brands is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to manage hourly payroll processing and benefit administration in a hybrid Toronto-area role. You will ensure accurate data entry, generate payroll reports, and support year-end processing in collaboration with operations and finance.

The ideal candidate has post-secondary education, 1–2 years Canadian payroll experience, strong Excel skills, and a working knowledge of payroll regulations.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field is required.
  • 1–2 years of Canadian payroll experience is expected.
  • Experience with SAP payroll systems is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and time/attendance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Administer team member benefits programs (health, dental, life, disability, group retirement).
  • Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Pull and verify payroll hours reports for operations and management.
  • Prepare reports for leaders to track pay and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Handle year-end reporting and payroll-related issues as needed.
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reports as required.

Summary

Reporting to Team Lead, the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator will ensure accurate processing and recording of company’s Hourly payroll and back up where required; provide timely and accurate financial information; participate in daily data entry Payroll processing.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Administer team member benefits programs, including health, dental, life, disability, and group retirement plans
  • Maintain accurate and confidential team member benefits records in carrier platforms
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Pulls reports, sorts, and distributes payroll hours reports for verification and adjustment by operations
  • Reviews hours reports, prepares discrepancy reports, and follows up
  • Verifies that all hours and other data have been accurately input and downloads the information for payroll processing on a weekly basis.
  • Prepares a variety of reports for team leaders and managers to aid in the tracking of and verification of pay.
  • Assists in the resolution of pay discrepancies.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Understand proper withholding tax on different types of payments
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Execute time and attendance processing and interface with payroll
  • Enter referrals paid/monitors referrals weekly and inform agencies of referrals to be paid
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Research and email appropriate audience of file issues
Required Experience
  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Experience with SAP payroll systems is an asset
  • 1-2 years of experience processing Canadian payroll; USA payroll is an asset
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Working knowledge of Time and Attendance systems
  • Strong knowledge of government regulations
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Excellent decision-making; problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail; strong organizational; multi-tasking; and prioritizing skills
  • Advanced Excel, excellent computer skills
  • National Payroll Institute designation is preferred or in progress
