Job summary

East Penn Canada in Courtice is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Administrator to ensure accurate payroll, benefits, and leave management for 400 staff. This fully onsite role requires meticulous data handling and compliance with employment laws.

Collaborate with benefit providers and WSIB/CNESST, support annual compensation cycles, and drive process improvements while delivering exceptional employee service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of payroll and benefits administration experience.
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree with an accounting/payroll focus or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of payroll, benefits, and employment legislation.
  • Hands-on experience with an integrated HRIS/payroll system (Ceridian Dayforce preferred).
  • Experience managing leaves of absence and statutory disability applications.
  • Strong Excel proficiency for data reconciliation, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Highly organized with strong planning and prioritization.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Administer accurate bi-weekly payroll for 400 employees across provinces.
  • Maintain payroll data for new hires, terminations, leaves, and changes.
  • Review and validate time and attendance data.
  • Prepare ROEs, remittances, and year-end filings (T4s, RL-1s, EHT, T2200s, WSIB/CNESST).
  • Administer employee benefits and retirement programs; handle enrollments and education sessions.
  • Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries with professionalism.
  • Administer leaves and Workers’ Compensation claims; coordinate return-to-work.
  • Coordinate with WSIB, CNESST, Sun Life for accommodations.
  • Support annual compensation cycles with reports and materials.
  • Maintain payroll and absence-related reports; support audits and improvements.

Are you a detail-driven Payroll & Benefits Administrator who takes pride in accuracy, compliance, and supporting employees through critical moments?

Our organization is seeking a high-caliber professional to administer payroll, benefits, workplace injury claims, and employee leave programs.

This position is a fully onsite vacancy based out of our Courtice head office.

Responsibilities
  • Administer accurate and timely bi-weekly hourly and salary multi-province payroll for 400 employees, ensuring compliance with legislation
  • Maintain employee payroll data including new hires, terminations, leaves, and compensation changes
  • Review and validate time and attendance data
  • Prepare and submit ROEs, statutory remittances, and year-end filings (T4s, RL-1s, EHT, T2200s, WSIB/CNESST)
  • Administer employee benefit and group retirement programs, including enrollments and changes, and deliver benefits onboarding and education sessions to employees
  • As the subject matter expert, respond to employee payroll and benefits inquiries with professionalism and discretion, providing exceptional customer service
  • Administration of short-term and long-term leaves, as well as Workers’ Compensation claims, including reporting, documentation, and return-to-work coordination
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external providers (e.g., WSIB, CNESST, Sun Life) to support safe and timely accommodations
  • Support annual compensation cycles by preparing reports and materials
  • Maintain accurate records and develop payroll, benefits, compensation, and absence-related reports
  • Support audits and continuous process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration
  • Post-Secondary diploma/degree with an accounting/payroll focus or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of payroll, benefits, and employment legislation
  • Hands-on experience with an integrated HRIS/payroll system (Ceridian Dayforce preferred)
  • Experience managing leaves of absence and statutory disability applications
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook, and high level of proficiency in MS Excel for data reconciliation, forecasting, and reporting, as required
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation completed or in progress is an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information
  • Highly organized with strong planning and prioritization skills
  • Strong critical thinking and proactive problem‑solving skills
  • Proven ability to navigate a variety of tasks, while maintaining an optimistic attitude
  • Works effectively as part of a dynamic team and contributes to a positive team environment
Other Considerations
  • Background checks including criminal checks, employment references, and driver’s abstracts will be requested
  • Applicants who are interviewed for this position will receive a notification regarding the hiring decision within 45 days of their final interview date
  • Expected hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually (exact annual salary offered to the successful applicant will be determined by the candidate's experience, education, related knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data)
