Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Payroll Analyst to support payroll compliance and accounting across Ontario with a focus on accuracy and timely processing. The role reports to the Manager, Payroll Compliance at the corporate head office in Markham and offers on-site work arrangements.

Ideal candidates have a 3–5 year background in payroll/accounting, strong Excel skills, and the ability to analyze data to recommend solutions; knowledge of legislative changes and union agreements is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Commerce or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience with Payroll and/or Accounting with payroll process experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is an additional bonus.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (Look Up, Tables, Formulas) with ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommended solutions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge (legislative changes, collective agreement ratifications).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly GL reconciliations using Yardi; prepare reclass journal entries and advise payroll admins on adjustments.
  • Assist in remittances, reporting, file submissions and reconciliations; verify remittances before approvals.
  • Manage monthly garnishee remittances and distribute payments.
  • Audit PTO balances bi-weekly and adjust balances for terminated employees.
  • Assist payroll team with union agreements and year-end processing; government filings.
  • Support special projects and payroll changes required by legislation or union agreements.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll Compliance, the Payroll Analyst will support with the following accountabilities:

  • Complete monthly GL reconciliations using the financial application (Yardi). Prepare necessary reclass journal entries and provide guidance to payroll administrators on payroll adjustments and updates. Liaise with Finance on G/L inquiries and escalations.
  • Assist in preparation of third-party remittance requisitions, reporting, file submissions and reconciliations. Verify payroll tax remittances and third party remittances against supporting payroll records before submitting to payroll manager for approval.
  • Manage monthly Garnishee remittances including requesting monthly payments, updating garnishee list, and distribution of payment cheques.
  • Audit and validate PTO balances on bi-weekly basis and prepare adjustment entries to clear out balances for terminated employees.
  • Support and work with Payroll team on payroll calculations relating to union collective agreements and new ratified agreements.
  • Assist in year-end processing, annual government filings and reconciliations.
  • Assist the payroll compliance team with special projects, and implementation of payroll changes required by legislations or union agreements
Who you are:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce or related discipline

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel – Look Up, Tables, Formulas, with ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommended solutions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge (legislative changes, collective agreement ratifications)
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.
