In this exciting position, you’ll be responsible for managing the payroll process, assisting with account reconciliations, consolidating and disseminating detailed financial reports, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring precise data entry. ESSENTAIL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to the following):
• Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems for 1000+ employees, ensuring timely and accurate payroll transactions, including salaries, wages, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
• Process payroll updates promptly, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate adjustments.
• Prepare and maintain accurate payroll records and generate reports detailing payroll transactions.
• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and industry best practices.
• Facilitate audits by providing necessary records and documentation to auditors.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in payroll systems and procedures, recommending updates to accounting software and processes.
• Create and process journal entries related to the full payroll function, including bi-weekly payroll journals, Workers’ Compensation entries, Employee Health Tax entries, and vacation accruals.
• File payroll taxes on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including Workers’ Compensation Board and Employee Health Tax filings.
• Assist in monthly account reconciliations and support the Assistant Controller and Controller with other tasks as needed.
• Contribute to departmental goals by performing additional duties as required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
• Proven experience as a Payroll Accountant or in a similar role, preferably in Canada.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience with Ceridian/Dayforce is preferred.
• Ski industry experience is an asset but not required.
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
• Strong understanding of Canadian payroll systems, tax regulations, and employment standards, with a focus on British Columbia.
• In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial payroll laws, including the Employment Standards Act of BC.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and database management.
• Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reporting.
• Strong time management and organizational skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
• Highly organized, punctual, self-motivated, and proactive.
• Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Adaptable and flexible, able to work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment.
• Availability to work weekends and holidays during peak seasons, as required by business needs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Must be able to legally work in Canada.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A reliable/insured vehicle with winter tires (for the winter season), to get to/from work (no shuttle service available in the off-season months).
