Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in the Western Zone at Soldiers Memorial Hospital is seeking a casual Food Service Worker to support the Nutrition and Food Services team. You will help prepare and serve meals, handle patient selections, and ensure safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires Grade 12 or GED, basic English and math, and a customer-service mindset. Shifts may include days/evenings/nights, with some weekend coverage and physical demands typical of food

Qualifications

• Grade 12/GED or equivalent.
• Demonstrated competency in English and basic Math.
• Restaurant experience is an asset.
• Customer Service skills are an asset.
• Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental goals.
• Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
• Ability to communicate effectively with civility and respect.
• French language skills are an asset.

Responsibilities

• Answer patient calls and enter meal selections.
• Attend to patients, visitors and staff with meals and nourishments.
• Prepare, portion and serve patient and visitor meals.
• Deliver meals and collect soiled trays and supplies.
• Assist with inventory and FIFO storage, menu duties, and related reporting.
