Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Part-time Chaplain/Spiritual Care Practitioner to support residents, families, and staff in a multi-faith, multicultural long-term care facility in Fredericton, NB. You will build relationships, provide spiritual care, and collaborate with the care team to honor diverse beliefs and practices.

You will lead prayer groups and services, support bereavement activities, and coordinate other pastoral providers to ensure holistic care and cultural safety for all residents.

Responsibilities

• Assess spiritual and religious care needs and provide direct spiritual support and religious care to residents, families and staff, ensuring access to practices/rituals as appropriate or requested
• Provide spiritual care and supportive counselling and refer to other team members or community partners as needed
• Lead prayer groups, study groups, church services, plan celebrations and days for all faiths represented
• Participate in bereavement functions such as memorial services at least quarterly
• Document care planning, goal setting, and progress notes
• Coordinate, orientate and evaluate other pastoral service providers for the facility
• Perform other duties as required

In this position, it is essential to appreciate and be able to lead a variety of faith traditions in our multicultural facility.

Responsibilities

• Functioning in a multi-faith environment the Chaplain/Spiritual Care Practitioner assesses the spiritual and religious care needs and provides direct spiritual support and religious care to residents, families and staff members, ensuring access to spiritual, religious and cultural practices/rituals as appropriate or requested
• Provides spiritual care and supportive counselling to residents, families and staff and/or makes appropriate referrals to other members or the inter-professional team or community partners
• Ability to lead prayer groups, study groups, church services, plan celebrations and hold days for all faiths represented
• Participates in special bereavement functions such as home wide memorial services at a minimum of quarterly
• Documentation skills for care planning, goal setting, participation and progress note support
• To coordinate, select, orientate and evaluate other pastoral service providers for the facility
• Perform other duties as required
