The Pod Group is partnering with a Peel Region organization to place a Part-time Youth Worker at shelters in Mississauga and Brampton. The role supports youth within a housing-first, trauma-informed framework and requires a minimum of four shifts per month, including days, evenings, overnights, and holidays.

Responsibilities include creating a safe environment, building links with service agencies, assisting with daily routines, conducting intakes, and providing crisis support.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Social Services or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience working with youth in a shelter/residential setting.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, mental health and addictions is an asset.
  • Knowledge of housing first for youth, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction practices is an asset.
  • Knowledge of resources within Peel Region for youth.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive environment to youth at the shelter.
  • Forge professional relationships to refer youth to services.
  • Assist youth in daily routines including cooking, cleaning and life skills development.
  • Complete intakes, answer phones, and monitor building safety with hourly checks.
  • Provide supervision, support and/or crisis counselling to residents.
  • Maintain open communication with staff.
  • Document shift activities and incidents in logs and client records.

OVERVIEW

A growing, community-based organization that provides shelter and outreach support for homeless youth in Peel Region. They are a leading organization recognized in the community for its commitment to providing youth in need with a safe environment and access to services to help them achieve independence and foster growth.

Are you passionate about supporting youth homelessness and mental health?

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a resourceful, compassionate, and hands-on individual to fulfill the role of a Part-time Youth Workers.

The Part-time Youth Worker will play a fundamental role to support the youth within the housing first framework that is strength-based and trauma-informed.

This position will require you to work a minimum of FOUR (4) shifts per month. We require flexible availability to work all available shifts including:

  • Days (8am - 4pm)
  • Evenings (3:30pm - 11:30pm)
  • Overnights (11pm - 9am)
  • Holidays

We are currently recruiting for roles at all our Mississauga and Brampton locations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a positive environment to youth coming to the shelter.
  • Forge professional relationships with a broad spectrum of community service agencies to be able to refer youth.
  • Assisting youth in daily routines including cooking, cleaning and life skills development.
  • Completing intakes, answering phones, and monitoring the building for safety including the completion of hourly security checks.
  • Provides supervision, support and/or crisis counselling to residents living at the shelter.
  • Maintains positive and open communication with the staff team.
  • Complete documentation of shift activities and incidents in appropriate logs and client records.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Social Services or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 1-2 years experience working with youth in a shelter/residential setting.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, mental health and addictions is an asset.
  • Knowledge of housing first for youth, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction practices is an asset.
  • Knowledge of resources within the Region of Peel, specifically for youth.
  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including some weekends and holidays.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and $2,000,000 (minimum) liability car insurance coverage are mandatory.
  • Valid CPI/ UMAB and First Aid/ CPR certifications.
