Position Summary
The Research and Academics Department at Ontario Shores is seeking a Research Assistant on a part-time, casual basis, with the possibility of increased hours. As part of a research team, this position will provide support and assistance to the research team working with Endowed Research Chair, Applied Mental Health Research to support neuromodulation (brain stimulation) and neurochemical (ketamine) studies for treatment-resistant depression and aging/dementia studies to improve cognition in older adults and reduce behavioural disorders in those living with dementia.
Responsibilities
Administratively reporting to the Director, Research and Academics and reporting to the Endowed Chair, Applied Mental Health Research on a day-to-day basis, the Research Assistant’s more specific duties and responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:
- Conducting literature searches
- Preparing Research Ethics Board submissions
- Recruiting and consenting research subjects
- Administering questionnaires and other internal and external data collection instruments including, but not limited to telephone interviews, face-to-face patient/staff interviews, printed and electronic surveys, and focus groups
- Data coding and entry
- Assisting with records management of research projects
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required & Preferred
- At least 1 to 3 years administering clinical scales and cognitive assessments in a clinical trial setting
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, neuroscience, mental health or related field
- Ability to use software packages for quantitative or qualitative data management and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated success in effectively organizing and prioritizing work assignments
- Timely feedback and reporting of completion or challenges of assigned tasks
- Detailed and results-oriented
- Enthusiastic about doing research
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment
- Ability to build rapport with research participants
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of personal information in accordance with hospital policy and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of Ontario
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access)
- Patient experience is an asset, especially in a geriatric and mental health setting.=
This is a 6 month contract.
