Job summary

Pace Independent Living is hiring a part-time Personal Support Worker to provide in-home care, supporting activities of daily living and safe transfers. You will work 20 hours weekly, with a unionized environment through UNIFOR and access to benefits and training.

The role requires completing a 600-hour PSW program, First Aid/CPR, and a valid Criminal Record Check. The team uses Microsoft Office 365 tools for daily tasks and communication.

Qualifications

  • Completed a PSW Program that meets the appropriate standards and is 600 hours in duration.
  • 1-year PSW experience gained in the physical disabilities sector.
  • OPSWA membership would be considered an asset.
  • Proof of First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Person).

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal support services in clients' homes (activities of daily living, lifts/transfers, bowel/bladder routines, dressing/undressing, skin care, respiration, meals/drinks, general hygiene).

LOCATION: Cherry/FrontStreet
PARKING: No designated parking at this location, however you may be able to find paid public parking in the area. This location is easily accessible by TTC.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Provides personal support services(i.e., activities of daily living, lifts/transfers, bowel/bladder routines, dressing/undressing, skin care, respiration, meals/drinks, general hygiene)to clients in their homes.
  • Be part of the UNIFOR union
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • A passion for providing exceptional personal support services to male/female clients
  • Ability to lift and transfer clients
  • Manages time in co-operation with clients to complete tasks
  • Ability to accept direction from client's regarding services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution and judgment skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 computer skills (Outlook, Word)
WHAT HOURS YOU’LL WORK - totaling 20 hours per week:
  • Monday:OFF
  • Tuesday:OFF
  • Wednesday: OFF
  • Thursday: 7 am – 12 pm
  • Friday: 7 am – 12 pm
  • Saturday: 7 am – 12 pm
  • Sunday: 7 am – 12 pm
HOW TO QUALIFY:
  • Completed a PSW Program that meets the appropriate standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association and must be 600 hours in duration (including class time and practical experience time). This also includes a PSW Program from an Adult and Continuing Education School Board.
  • 1-year PSW experience gained in the physical disabilities sector
  • Ontario Personal Support Worker Association (OPSWA) membership would be considered an asset
  • Proof of First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Person)
