Job summary

BGC Central Vancouver Island in Parksville, BC, seeks an empathetic School Age Support Worker (SASW) to help children with additional needs integrate, play, and thrive with peers. The role focuses on development, communication, and positive behaviour support within a school-age program.

The SASW provides individualized care, collaborates with families and staff, and aligns with safety plans and licensing requirements.

Qualifications

• Requires CSW Certificate or CYC diploma/degree or BI training.
• Valid First Aid/CPR certificate approved by licensing.
• Criminal record check will be conducted; no convictions.

Responsibilities

• Support inclusion, participation, and belonging of children with additional support needs within the school-age program.
• Support children in developing daily living skills, social-emotional skills, communication, and self-regulation.
• Implement individualized strategies identified in support/safety plans (visual supports, assistive tech, sensory tools).
• Observe and respond to children's strengths/needs and adapt activities to promote participation.
• Follow licensing requirements and organizational policies for safety and care.
