Job summary

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Program Leader to plan, prepare and run youth and children's programs and events in our community. Based in Whitby, you will deliver safe, high‑quality activities, guided by our CARE values.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation & Community Programs, you will supervise drop-in sessions, develop youth programming, promote memberships, and participate in staff training while coordinating with volunteers and partners.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education minimum.
  • Recreation programming, Childhood Development and Youth Leadership Training.
  • Six months of directly related experience.
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED.
  • Ability to coordinate activities and motivate children and youth participants and volunteers.
  • Physical ability to participate in set up and instruct activities.
  • Effective conflict resolution, reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and instruct youth and children programs and events.
  • Instruct and supervise participants at drop-in programs and recreation activities.
  • Develop youth programs by planning seminars, theme nights and special events.
  • Promote child and youth programs and youth memberships.
  • Attend staff training sessions and respond to participant needs.
