Job summary

Town of Ajax is hiring a Program Supervisor for River Rocks – Leadership Program. You will plan and lead specialized youth programming, mentor staff, and ensure safe, engaging activities for participants. The role emphasizes relationship-building, supervision, and event coordination within a municipal recreation setting.

Ideal candidates have a Grade 12 or equivalent and 1–2 years in recreation with youth, plus First Aid/CPR and High Five certifications or willingness to obtain them by deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of recreation experience with children/youth.
  • Knowledge of delivery of recreational programs and youth services.
  • High Five Quest 2 certification preferred.
  • Public relations and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Leadership and programming knowledge are valued.
  • Strong organization, time management and planning abilities.
  • Self-motivated, approachable and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C required within deadline.
  • High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required within deadline.
  • Willingness to obtain Behaviour Management Systems certification.
  • Criminal reference/vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise River Rocks programming and leadership activities.
  • Develop relationships with participants and oversee program planning and events.
  • Coordinate staff shifts, incident reports and communications logs.
  • Monitor participant safety, behavior and equipment use.
  • Maintain tidiness and inventory of programming spaces and supplies.
  • Provide mentorship and training to program leaders and staff.
  • Support on-site staff with daily programming and events.

Supervisor is also accountable for providing on-site staff mentorship and training to the program leaders.Job Duties IncludeProgram Supervisor – River RocksInitiates, develops and maintains relationships with registered participants.Assists with oversight, planning, organization and leadership of all River Rocks activities, including off-site trips.Supports staff team members in the facilitation of general daily programming and/or events.Employs varied methods of consultation to determine areas of participant interest and programming needs.Monitors space, provide direction, and addresses any issues surrounding: team members’ performance, volunteer engagement, participant interactions and safety, programming, and equipment use.Works to build a culture of engagement and respect, creating a sense of pride and connection within the River Rocks Program.Enforces behaviour criteria amongst participants.Maintains the tidiness of the programming space, and manages care of equipment, maintaining accurate inventory.Takes appropriate action to deal with incidents, problems, emergencies as outlined in the Departmental Policies and Procedures.Responsible for administrative tasks necessary to support the Community Recreation Coordinator, including but not limited to: Distributing staff shift placements, incident reports, summary reports, damage reports, worker injury report, and communication logs.Qualifications/SkillsCompletion of Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent.Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in the recreation field working Recreation programs with Children and/or Youth.Knowledge and experience related to the delivery of recreational programs and youth services.HIGH FIVE – Quest 2 certification preferredPublic relations skills and interpersonal skills.Leadership resource knowledge and programming skills.Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Strong oral and written communication skills.Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification (If hired, must be obtained by September 21, 2026).HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (If hired, must be obtained by September 21, 2026).Willingness to obtain Behaviour Management Systems certification.Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference /Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last 6 months), upon being hired.Nice to HaveFood Handlers certificate is an assetWhat is Offered to StaffCompensation : We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 10 hours per week. 5 hours of program time, per week and 2.5 hours on Mondays (MCC) and Wednesdays (ARC) for program implementation.
