Job summary

YW Calgary is seeking a part-time Parenting Time Facilitator to support families during separations and conflicts. You will supervise visits, perform intake assessments, and apply trauma-informed practices to promote child safety and well-being.

Role requires a degree or diploma in Human Services, plus Brain Story certification or progress within 3 months, NVCI and First Aid Level C. Weekly afternoon/evening shifts start EBWednesday and Thursday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Child Studies, or related field.
• Brain Story certification required or to be completed within 3 months of employment.
• NVCI and First Aid Level C are required upon commencement of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform intake assessments with families and gather relevant information and documentation, including safety planning and risk assessment.
• Use a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to facilitate parenting goals and guide parents.
• Oversee and monitor scheduled visits between non-custodial adults and children, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
• Escort children to and from the visitation space and consult with custodial adults regarding care instructions for visits and exchanges.
• Observe supervised parenting time and report concerns with program coordinator or supervisor.
• Intervene during supervised parenting time when safety is at risk.
• Support development/ facilitation of educational workshops for families as needed.
• Respond to information requests by phone or email; monitor inbox and communications.
• Keep detailed records of supervised visits and workshop attendance; prepare reports as required.
• Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles per YWCA Calgary values.

Description

The Parenting Time Facilitator plays an important role in supporting families undergoing transitions due to separation, divorce, or other family conflict. This position supervises visits between non-custodial adults and their children and ensures a safe and supportive environment for these interactions. The Facilitator promotes resilience and positive outcomes by taking a trauma-informed and strength-based approach to working with families.

This is part-time opportunity Wednesdays & Thursdays from 3:45 - 8:45pm.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Perform intake assessments with families and gather relevant information and documentation, including safety planning and risk assessment
• Use a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to facilitate the development of parenting goals and use empathic, strengths-based approaches to guide parents in meeting goals
• Oversee and monitor scheduled visits between non-custodial adults and children, ensuring a safe and supportive environment
• Escort children to and from the visitation space and consult with custodial adults regarding care instructions for visits and exchanges
• Observe supervised parenting time in a supportive way without judgement; report concerns with program coordinator and/or supervisor
• Intervene during supervised parenting time when the safety of the child, other program participants, or staff is at risk
• May support with the development and/or facilitation of educational workshops to support workshops for families if needed, focusing on coping with separation or divorce, effective co-parenting strategies, and emotional well-being
• Respond to requests for information and/or service by phone or email; regularly monitor email inbox and other communications
• Keep detailed records of supervised visits and workshop attendance, including observations and any incidents, and prepare reports as required
• Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into one's role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YWCA Calgary's values and Practice Framework
• Ensure work aligns with YWCA Calgary's Health, Safety, and Wellness policies while promoting a safe, inclusive, and psychologically healthy workplace Report hazards or incidents promptly, address unsafe practices, and use required safety equipment to support risk mitigation and compliance with legislative standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Child Studies, or related field. Other education with relevant experience will be considered
• Alberta Family Wellness Initiative's Brain Story certification required or to be completed within 3 months of employment
• NVCI and First Aid Level C are required upon commencement of employment

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Experience working with families impacted by separation, divorce, and/or domestic violence is an asset
• Strong understanding of domestic violence and other types of family conflict
• Sound judgement and risk assessment skills
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and strong crisis intervention skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly develop rapport and establish professional, respectful relationships with others using a positive and non-judgmental approach
• Approach work and others through the lens of equity, diversity and inclusivity
