Job summary

Postmedia Parcel Services in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is hiring a part-time Package Handler. The role involves preparing stations for inbound parcels, labeling and scanning, sorting into correct bags and cages, and assisting with loading/unloading trucks.

Base rate is CAD 16.75/hr with pension and paid vacation time. Flexible, hardworking individuals who can work up to 12 hour shifts including weekends are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Reliable transportation is preferred.
• Basic English language skills are required for communication.
• Ability to work up to 12 hr shifts and weekends.
• Warehouse experience is an asset, not required.
• Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs repetitively.

Responsibilities

• Prepare stations for inbound parcels: set up racks, bags, and cages for sorting.
• Ensure items are labeled with correct Hub/Sort codes and scanned.
• Sort parcels and place in correctly labeled bags/cages.
• Verify sort codes to prevent missorts.
• Use provided equipment properly and report issues to Admins.
• Bag/cage sorted freight and stage for carriers; assist loading/unloading trucks.
• Maintain cleanliness and adhere to Health and Safety guidelines.
• Notify Leads of supplies, damages, delays or issues.
• Support others as needed and perform additional tasks.

The Opportunity:

Postmedia Parcel Services is looking for flexible, hardworking individuals to join our growing team!

What you’ll do:

• Prepare stations for inbound parcels: Set up of racks, bags, and cages, for sorting.
• Ensuring everything is properly labeled with correct Hub/Sort codes
• Scan, sort, and place parcels within stations in the appropriate labeled bags/cages
• Verify sort codes to match with proper bags/cages to eliminate "missorts"
• Ensure proper use of provided equipment
• Responsible for bringing missorts/package issues to Admins
• Bag/Cage all sorted freight and stage the freight for carriers
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks as required
• Clean facility as required
• Update respective Leads of any supplies needed, damages and any delays or issues encountered
• Ensure all Health and Safety Guidelines are adhered to at all times
• Ensure dock safety for yourself and fellow coworkers
• Any other task or assignments deemed necessary by the organization

Requirements:
