Job summary

Oxford Learning North York Willowdale is seeking a passionate High School English Teacher / Tutor to work after‑school and evenings, teaching up to three students at a time in North York.

In‑person instruction only, with the ability to guide Grade 9–12 English learners, and join a team that values ongoing training and professional growth. This role offers opportunities for skill development and meaningful impact on student success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field required.
  • Some tutoring or teaching experience at high school level preferred.
  • Good knowledge of the Grade 9–12 curriculum.
  • In-person instruction; remote teaching is not supported; after‑school/evening availability required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to three students at a time, at different levels, in‑person.
  • Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies.
  • Fill in post‑lesson notes and daily student updates.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional manner at all times.

High School English Teacher / Tutor

Passionate about puns? Excited by literature? Eager to help students succeed in English? Gain valuable teaching experience with Oxford Learning North York Willowdale, a Canadian supplemental education provider since 1984.



Position Requirements


  • Availability during after‑school and evening hours (3:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

  • Available for a minimum of 2 evenings per week

  • Commitment through the end of the 2026-2027 school year (June 30th), with possibility of continuing through the summer

  • In‑person instruction; remote teaching is not supported

  • Ability to commute to the designated location – relocation packages are not available

  • Mandatory vulnerable‑sector screening



Education


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in a relevant field

  • Fourth‑year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered

  • Teaching certification is an asset

  • Good knowledge of the current Grade 9 to Grade 12 curriculum



Experience


  • Some experience teaching or tutoring at Grade 9 to Grade 12 (or equivalent) level

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and ability to guide students’ understanding

  • Ability to multitask and work with up to three students at a time

  • Ability to teach French is highly desired
