Kids & Company in Halifax is actively seeking a Part-Time Kitchen Assistant to help manage daily kitchen operations and food service for classrooms. You will follow established standards to prepare meals and assist with deliveries under supervision.

The role requires 2+ years in a kitchen helper capacity, a high school diploma or GED, and a current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain one. Daycare experience is a plus, with a valid driver's license and a clean record.

• Experience in a daycare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.
• A clean criminal record check is required.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal and snack portioning and delivery to classrooms.
• Assist with food preparation tasks such as fruit prep and kitchen support.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies and equipment.
• Collect dishes, utensils, and service items from classrooms.
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and store dishes and equipment per safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
• Assist with organizing and rotating food products and inventory.
• Follow all safety, allergy, and workplace requirements.
• Work with the Cook and Centre Director to support kitchen operations.
• Perform other related duties to support kitchen operations.

Salary Range: CA$18.00 To CA$18.00 Hourly

Reporting to the Centre Director, you will be an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the overall management of daily kitchen operations. Your role will involve food preparation and cooking, following Kids & Company standards to align with our mission statement.

We are currently hiring a Part-Time Kitchen Assistantto work Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal and snack portioning, and delivery to classrooms, ensuring food is distributed safely and on time.
• Assist with food preparation tasks such as fruit preparation and other kitchen support duties as assigned.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies, including bins, serving materials, and delivery carts.
• Collect dishes, utensils, and meal service equipment from classrooms.
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and food trolleys in accordance with food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning work areas, equipment, storage areas, and meal service items.
• Assist with organizing, storing, and rotating food products, kitchen supplies, and inventory.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy-awareness, and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the Cook and Centre Director to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the kitchen.
