Job summary

Kids & Company is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations at our daycare centers in Nova Scotia. You will assist with meal prep, portioning, and safe delivery to classrooms, following our safety standards.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in a kitchen role, a high school diploma, and a valid Food Handler Certification. Daycare experience and a clean background check are assets. This is an on-site position with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years in a Kitchen Assistant role.
• Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED acceptable).
• Current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in a daycare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal and snack portioning and delivery to classrooms.
• Help with food preparation tasks and kitchen support duties.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies and delivery carts.
• Collect dishes and service equipment and ensure safe storage.
• Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen areas and storage.
• Support inventory organization and rotation of food products.

Job description

Salary Range: CA$18.00 To CA$18.00 Hourly

Reporting to the Centre Director, you will be an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the overall management of daily kitchen operations. Your role will involve food preparation and cooking, following Kids & Company standards to align with our mission statement.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal and snack portioning, and delivery to classrooms, ensuring food is distributed safely and on time.
• Assist with food preparation tasks such as fruit preparation, and other kitchen support duties as assigned.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies, including bins, serving materials, and delivery carts.
• Collect dishes, utensils, and meal service equipment from classrooms.
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and food trolleys in accordance with food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning work areas, equipment, storage areas, and meal service items.
• Assist with organizing, storing, and rotating food products, kitchen supplies, and inventory.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy-awareness, and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the Cook and Centre Director to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the kitchen.

What you need

• 2+ years of experience in a Kitchen Assistant role.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in a daycare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
• A clean criminal record check is required.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
