Qualifications

• Experience in institutional or commercial cooking, preferably in long-term care, hospital, or retirement home settings.
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices, kitchen sanitation, and infection control standards.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes, menus, and dietary guidelines, including therapeutic and modified diets.
• Strong time management and organizational skills to prepare and serve meals within scheduled timeframes.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with dietary, nursing, and care staff.
• Commitment to resident-centered service, with patience and respect for older adults and individuals with diverse needs.
• Basic math and record-keeping skills for portion control, temperature logs, and inventory tracking.
• Relevant culinary training, Food Handler certification, or equivalent education and experience; additional nutrition or gerontology training is an asset.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the role, such as standing for extended periods and safely lifting or moving supplies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals aligned with residents’ dietary needs and care plans.
• Follow established menus and recipes, ensure safe food handling and kitchen sanitation.
• Coordinate meal service and support special diets and dining experiences for residents.
