Job summary

YMCA of the National Capital Region is seeking an Assistant Educator to support Licensed Child Care programs. You will help maintain a high-quality environment for children by supporting educators, ensuring safety, and implementing age-appropriate activities.

You will report to the Manager, Child Care and work within a unionized team. A valid First Aid/CPR-C and a Canada work permit are required; police checks are mandatory.

Qualifications

• ECE diploma or CECE recognized equivalency (asset)
• Fluent in English, oral and written
• Minimum two years of experience working with children
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification
• Valid permit to work in Canada
• Police Records check within 6 months
• Semi-annually, mandatory training for protection of Children & Youth

Responsibilities

• Create an educational, safe, clean and enjoyable environment for children by planning and implementing age-appropriate programs to meet children’s social, emotional, physical, educational and individual needs under the Y Playing to Learn curriculum.
• Foster self-esteem, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills in children.
• Develop and maintain constructive and open communication with staff.
• Understand and follow YMCA policies, procedures and guidelines as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual and Parent Handbook.
• Participate in a team-teaching approach in supervision and program development.
• Prepare snacks and complete housekeeping duties for the child care programs on a rotational basis with other educators.
