Village Media's The Trillium seeks a Parliament Hill Journalist in Ottawa to cover federal political news for The Trillium and its Ontario local outlets. The role is primarily in-office on Parliament Hill with some remote work when the House rises, reporting to the Ottawa bureau chief.

You'll develop sources, access documents for exclusive stories, and collaborate with editors for accuracy in Canadian Press style, delivering timely accountability journalism to Ontario's readers.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to break enterprising accountability-focused news stories.
• Experience covering federal politics is an advantage.
• Willing to work some nights and weekends when required.
• Reside in the National Capital Region or within commuting distance.

Description

Village Media is seeking political journalists to join a new Parliament Hill bureau of The Trillium. The Trillium is Village Media’s Ontario political news website. For the past three years, The Trillium has been devoted to Ontario provincial political news and has developed a reputation for impactful accountability-focused journalism at Queen’s Park. Now, we’re expanding to Parliament Hill to bring hard-hitting, enterprising federal political news to our readers across Ontario. Reporting to The Trillium’s Ottawa bureau chief, the reporters will be responsible for covering federal political news for The Trillium and Village Media’s network of Ontario local news outlets. The successful candidate will be passionate about breaking news that serves Ontario voters, holds governments to account and doesn’t follow the pack. The reporter will be expected to go beyond the daily news cycle by developing sources and accessing documents that lead to exclusives. They will be team-oriented and work collaboratively under the bureau chief's direction. This role will be primarily in-office and on Parliament Hill, with flexibility for some remote work when the House rises.
