Our Parks Department is looking for a regular full-time Parks Planning Projects Manager to join the team. Reporting to the Section Manager, Parks Planning, Design and Development, you will be responsible for the development of Parks policies, plans and projects.

As Parks Planning Projects Manager, you will manage complex projects and play a key role in mentoring, training, and supporting planning staff in advancing parks strategic work and Council’s goals. Considerable independent judgement and the ability to provide direction on a variety of complex planning matters will be essential. The position may support climate resilience, adaptation initiatives, policy implementation, and other projects aligned with Council priorities.
You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop project goals and objectives and drive projects forward to achieve desired outcomes. You will identify and secure senior government funding, manage budgets, and select and supervise consultants. You will also lead public and stakeholder engagement and provide strategic and technical advice to Council and senior staff.

Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships. You are a skilled facilitator with experience collaborating to identify challenges and solutions, and you have demonstrated success in resolving competing objectives. Strong research, analytical, and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.
We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented project manager, experienced, critical thinker, self-starter, and strong communicator.

Salary: The pay range for this exempt position is $116,842.20 to $129,497.97 per annum (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)

Rate of Pay:

$116,842.20 to $129,497.97 per annum (2024 rates)

Education:

As a qualified candidate, you have a Degree in a related field; such as Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline plus 5-7 years of related progressive experience leading capital construction projects, preferably within a municipal or regional government setting. Preference will be given to candidates with professional designation in good standing with an accredited association, such as Engineers and Geoscientists, BC; Planning Institute of BC; the BC Society of Landscape Architects, or related. Formal training and certification in one or more of Project Management, Construction Management, Asset Management, or related is required. This position requires a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Experience:

The successful candidate will have:

• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods applicable to contemporary planning and park design.
• A demonstrated track record of project oversight and management, including supervision of professional or technical staff, consultants, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
• Exceptional communication skills with significant experience in public engagement and consultation, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
