Forestry and Parks is hiring a full-time, temporary Park Ranger Supervisor in Central Region out of the Spruce Grove District. We are looking for a Park Ranger Supervisor that is passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for park visitors.

Responsibilities:

  1. Encourage safe and sustainable outdoor recreational experiences while working to protect natural and cultural resource integrity.
  2. Maintain an overall field presence across the District to identify and resolve visitor conflicts through proactive prevention, education, and monitoring.
  3. Rove campgrounds, day use areas, trails, and backcountry areas by foot, bike, motor vehicle, or off-highway vehicle.
  4. Monitor site conditions, respond to issues, and foster respectful behavior through information sharing and education.
  5. Supervise a team of seasonal Park Rangers within the District to achieve desired outcomes.
  6. Coach and guide the team on Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) procedures and daily tasks while ensuring compliance with training and regulations.
  7. Understand the Provincial Parks Act and Regulations to educate visitors and stakeholders of park rules while encouraging voluntary compliance.
  8. Assist in public safety by supporting incidents affecting park operations, including search and rescue, medical incidents, evacuations, area closures, fire bans, and wildlife warnings.
  9. Maintain constructive relationships with First Nations, facility operators, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  10. Collaborate with other park staff to ensure efficient park operations.
Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

A related two-year diploma (Natural Resources, Natural or Environmental Sciences, Recreation Management, Conservation) plus 3 years related experience (Park, Natural Resources, Wildlife, Outdoor Recreation).

Equivalency:
Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Other Requirements:

  1. Experience communicating and presenting to staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  2. Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED.
  3. Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
  4. Ability to lift, move, carry a minimum of 50 lb.
  5. Able to work and travel in various terrain and degrees of isolation in all weather conditions, sometimes for extended periods.
  6. Able to work independently without direct supervision with initiative.
  7. Supervisory experience.

Assets:

  1. Extensive knowledge of the Provincial Parks Act and Regulations.
  2. Training and certification in the use of various equipment (i.e., watercraft, OHVs, snowmobiles, 4x4 vehicles, chainsaws).
  3. Wilderness First Aid certification.
  4. Incident Command Systems (ICS) training.
  5. Confidence in using Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  6. Supervisory or leadership experience in a related field.
  7. Knowledge of natural history and Alberta flora and fauna.
  8. Conflict management/resolution experience.
  9. Knowledge of Spruce Grove District located in the Central Region of Alberta Parks.
  10. Ability to speak and understand other languages.
  11. Knowledge of Indigenous culture.
