PRA Group Canada is recruiting to fill a vacancy for a Paralegal with a compensation range of $50,000 - $60,000 annually.

What you will do:

This role reports directly to the Manager of Legal Support Administration and supports the daily operations of the Legal Department. The Paralegal will be responsible to manage an individual file load, appear in court when required, as well as complete tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Manager. This role is responsible to be aware of and comply with all relevant legislation, information security best practices, and company policies.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Preparing files for legal actions (i.e. Plaintiff Claims)
• Managing and working an active legal queue
• Preparing documentation for court hearings
• Assisting in the recovery of legal accounts through negotiation with defendants and/or opposing legal representatives
• Representing the company in court proceedings
• Meeting all claim process deadlines
• Attending telephone settlement conferences as needed
• Working closely with various agents and court offices
• Supplying daily updates of file status
• Providing support to the team of Law Clerks
• Attending meetings and trainings as required
• Staying current with legislation and legal processes related to our business
• Providing insight and recommendations to management on legal and recovery strategies

What you will bring:

• Two years of experience in a legal environment
• Understanding of the Ontario Small Claims process
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational and decision-making abilities
• Ability to pass a criminal background check
