Main Functions
  • Communication.
    • Works harmoniously with other tradesmen.
  • Professional Responsibility.
    • Apply various types of surface covering such as paint, varnish and wallpaper.
    • Prepare surfaces by scraping, removing old paint and wallpaper, patching, sanding, sealing, in readiness for surface covering.
    • Performs function of drywall tape and finisher on all construction or renovations performed by department staff.
    • Completes as necessary plaster repairs of a size normally associated with a plasterer on renovations to plaster wall carried out by the department staff.
    • Applies surface covering with brush, roller or spray to achieve the time-area standard.
    • Works on ladders, scaffolds, etc., as high as four storeys with a safety belt, on windows, trim, etc., to maintain interior and exterior of buildings.
  • Quality Improvement.
    • Seeks to improve processes within their scope of responsibility.
  • Other Responsibilities.
    • Adheres to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices.
    • May be required to perform other duties and functions related to this job description not exceeding above stated skills and capabilities.
Experience
  • Completed several years of working in the Painting Trade.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Successful completion of grade 10, Province of Manitoba.
  • Province of Manitoba Certificate Journeyman Painter.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of:
    • The vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Deer Lodge Centre.
    • The Deer Lodge Centre’s Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
    • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
    • Knowledge of general paint shop procedures.
    • Proper methods for painting application.
  • Ability to apply paint by brush, roller or spray apparatus.
  • Ability to tape and finish drywall.
  • Ability to patch holes and cracks.
  • Ability to perform a variety of changing duties as required by painting assignments.
  • Ability to detect differences between mixed and sample colors.
  • Ability to operate the Paint Shop for short periods of time during holidays and sickness of other staff.
  • Ability to work in an environment respecting the privacy and rights of patients/residents that may be encountered in carrying out duties.
  • Tact, courtesy, discretion and reliability.
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
