Job summary

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto is seeking a PACU RN to provide primary care for post-operative patients in phase 1 and 2 recovery. You will assess, intervene, educate and advocate for patients while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include applying critical thinking in a dynamic peri-anesthesia setting, maintaining infection prevention practices, and contributing to quality improvement. Ontario registration and BCLS are required, ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years post-surgical care experience required.
• Critical Care Course required.
• Recent Critical Care/PACU experience required.
• Flexibility to work throughout the Peri-Anesthesia environment.
• Ability to apply critical thinking to patient care.
• Ability to handle a stressful environment positively.
• Function independently and as an active team member.
• Venipuncture and IV Certification required.
• Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control best practice.
• Demonstrated person-centered care approach and principles.
• Commitment to continuing education in the past 2 years.
• Commitment to organizational initiatives and quality improvement.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary care for post-operative patients in PACU (phase 1 and 2).
• Perform assessments, interventions, education and patient advocacy.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and adhere to College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
• Maintain infection prevention and control best practices.
• Demonstrate commitment to person-centered care and participate in quality initiatives.
