Job summary

Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver is seeking an Overnight Shift Engineer to maintain safe operation of building systems during overnight hours and support guest experiences.

You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to maintenance requests, monitor life safety systems, and ensure cleanliness and safety of mechanical rooms while complying with WorkSafe BC requirements.

Qualifications

  • Overnight shift availability is required.
  • Pool operator knowledge or certification is a plus.
  • Experience with HVAC systems is an asset.
  • Trade certifications are an asset.
  • Hospitality experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to maintenance/service calls in guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house.
  • Test water samples and adjust pool chemistry to meet standards.
  • Maintain pool cleanliness systems and safety measures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical facilities and the property.
  • Log equipment readings and notify the next shift of issues.
  • Record parts used and procurement needs.
  • Report unsafe conditions to Engineering leadership.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and participate in sustainability initiatives.

The Overnight Shift Engineer is responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the hotel's building systems during overnight hours. This role performs preventive maintenance, responds to guest and operational maintenance requests, monitors life safety systems, and supports the overall upkeep of the property to ensure an exceptional guest experience.

What You Will Be Doing


  • Be the front-line person that responds to maintenance/service calls in guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house

  • Performing testing of water samples to monitor pool water chemistry and making adjustments to maintain the quality standards

  • Ensured smooth functioning of the pool cleanliness system and safety measures

  • Preventative maintenance, operation and servicing of the physical plant (mechanical facilities) and the property

  • Ensure that all mechanical rooms exceed cleanliness standards while complying with WorkSafe BC requirements

  • Respond to all emergency situations including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters and power failures; notify the appropriate authorities

  • Complete maintenance requests, take equipment and meter readings and maintain log to notify the next shift

  • Document all parts used and parts needed to be purchased

  • Report any unsafe conditions to the Engineering Leadership team

  • Be Health & Safety conscious and actively involved in maintaining a safe work environment

  • Actively participate in the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s environmental program and department specific initiatives in working towards sustainable operation

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Your experience and skills include


  • Availability to work overnight shifts is required.

  • Experience as a Pool Operator would be considered an asset.

  • Pool Operator certification would be considered an asset.

  • Additional trade certification(s) would be considered an asset.

  • Previous hospitality experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of pool water chemistry is required.

  • Experience with HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems would be an asset.

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and systems.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences.

  • Flexibility to work weekends, rotating shifts outside of overnight hours, extended hours, and respond to emergencies as operationally required
