Job summary

Hotel X seeks an Overnight Maintenance Staff member to uphold high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and organization across assigned areas. Working overnight and independently, you will clean kitchens, cafeterias, offices, hallways and event spaces, and ensure spaces are ready for the next day’s operations.

The role requires reliability, attention to detail and minimal supervision. You will safely operate cleaning equipment, manage supplies, report maintenance concerns and follow WHMIS

Qualifications

• Valid WHMIS certification is required.
• Experience in janitorial, facilities or hotel/restaurant cleaning preferred.
• Ability to work independently on an overnight shift.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas including kitchens, cafeterias, offices and common areas.
• Sweep, mop and vacuum floors and surfaces, ensuring high cleanliness standards.
• Clean and sanitize event spaces, fixtures and high-touch areas.
• Prepare BOH areas for next day operations and restock supplies.
• Identify and report maintenance concerns or safety hazards.
• Follow health and safety and WHMIS procedures.

Job Overview

The Overnight Maintenance Staff member is responsible for maintaining exceptionally high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and organization across assigned Food Dudes areas at Hotel X.

Working primarily overnight and independently, this role requires someone who is reliable, detail-oriented and takes ownership of ensuring all assigned areas are thoroughly cleaned, maintained and ready for operations the following day.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working with minimal supervision, managing their responsibilities independently and consistently delivering work to a high standard. Attention to detail is essential, as cleanliness and presentation expectations at Hotel X are extremely high.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas, including kitchens, cafeterias, offices, hallways, event spaces and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum and thoroughly clean floors, carpets and other surfaces.
• Clean and sanitize event spaces, fixtures, equipment and high-touch areas.
• Complete detailed kitchen cleaning and ensure BOH areas are left clean, organized and ready for the following day's operations.
• Empty garbage and recycling and ensure waste is handled and disposed of appropriately.
• Replenish cleaning, sanitation and janitorial supplies as required.
• Maintain entrances, stairways, hallways and common areas in a clean, presentable and safe condition.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and ensure equipment is properly cleaned, maintained and stored after use.
• Safely handle cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with WHMIS requirements and established procedures.
• Identify and report maintenance concerns, damage, spills, leaks, equipment issues and potential safety hazards.
• Maintain clean, organized and properly stocked janitorial storage areas.
• Assist with general facility upkeep and outdoor cleaning duties as required.
• Provide dishwashing and kitchen-cleaning support during busy periods or as operationally required.
• Respond promptly to cleaning requests and other facility needs.
• Follow all health and safety, sanitation, WHMIS and infection-control procedures.
• Complete assigned overnight cleaning and maintenance responsibilities thoroughly and within established timelines.
• Conduct a final review of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and presentation standards have been met before the end of the shift.
• Perform other related janitorial, cleaning and general upkeep duties as assigned.

Expectations

Due to the independent nature of the overnight shift, a high level of accountability and ownership is essential. The Overnight Maintenance Staff member is expected to:

• Work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
• Take ownership of all assigned areas and ensure tasks are completed thoroughly without requiring ongoing direction.
• Maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness, organization and presentation.
• Pay close attention to detail and proactively address areas requiring additional cleaning or attention.
• Prioritize responsibilities effectively and complete all required work within the scheduled shift.
• Communicate any outstanding issues or concerns to management before the end of the shift.
• Be dependable and punctual, recognizing the importance of overnight work being completed before daytime operations begin.

Qualifications

• Valid WHMIS certification is required.
• Previous janitorial, commercial cleaning, hotel, restaurant or facilities experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working independently or on overnight shifts is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Reliable, responsible and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify what needs attention and take initiative without waiting for direction.
• Comfortable performing physically demanding work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting and repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning products and chemicals.
• Strong communication skills and ability to report concerns clearly to management.
• Flexible and willing to assist with additional cleaning, dishwashing and facility needs when required.
