Job summary

YMCA Camp Elphinstone near Gibsons, BC is seeking a Program Manager to lead high-quality outdoor education and summer programs, overseeing out-tripping and staff development. The role emphasizes equity, inclusion, and safety while managing program budgets and logistics.

You will train and mentor staff, coordinate with Indigenous partners and diverse communities, and ensure program delivery meets YMCA, Lifesaving Society, and Paddle Canada standards for safe, engaging experiences.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education in relevant field (Outdoor Recreation or Child & Youth Care).
• Minimum two years of leadership experience in camp, recreation, or educational field.
• Minimum five years leading outdoor leadership training programs.
• Instructional certification from relevant outdoor activity (Sea kayaking, Canoeing, Hiking, High Ropes or Rock Climbing).
• Have or willing to obtain ACCT Level 2 and/or Course manager.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee high-quality camper experiences aligned with camp mission and values.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and liaise with partnership groups.
• Lead the Out-trip and wilderness staff team.
• Maintain Out-trip system for routes, gear and food planning.
• Provide clear expectations, feedback, and professional development.
• Recruit, hire, coach, and lead a team committed to an inclusive camper-focused culture.
• Maintain health and safety protocols including First Aid duties and site safety checks.
• Ensure program areas meet YMCA, BCCA, Lifesaving Society, Paddle Canada standards.
