Job summary

YMCA BC is seeking a Program Manager for Camp Elphinstone to lead high‑quality outdoor education and summer programs. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, ensure safety, and build partnerships while fostering equity and inclusive experiences for youth.

The role requires significant outdoor leadership experience, instructional certifications, and a commitment to EDIB principles. Start date is ASAP; term is temporary, full‑time through Nov 1, 2027.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education in relevant field; Bachelors of Outdoor Recreation or Child and youth care with outdoor experience.
• Minimum two years of leadership experience in a supervisory/ management role in camp, recreation, or educational field.
• Minimum of five years leading outdoor leadership training programs.
• Instructional certification from relevant outdoor activity (Sea kayaking, Canoeing, Hiking, High Ropes or Rock Climbing).
• Have or willing to obtain ACCT Level 2 and/or Course manager.
• Three satisfactory references required.
• Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a high‑quality camper experience aligned with camp mission and values.
• Coordinate communication with parents/guardians and liaise with partners and international groups.
• Lead Out-trip and wilderness travel staff; manage trip planning systems for routes, gear and food.
• Provide clear expectations, regular feedback, and professional development.
• Assist with recruitment, coaching, and fostering an inclusive camper‑focused culture.
• Maintain health and safety protocols; conduct site walkthroughs and report defects.
• Ensure program areas meet YMCA and safety standards; oversee inspections and training.
• Manage equipment purchases, maintenance, and replacement as needed.
• Foster collaboration and shared decision‑making across teams.
