OTR Tire Technician, Valentine Gold Mine

Kal Tire is Canada’s largest independent tire dealer and one of North America’s largest commercial tire dealers. The company has warehouse facilities strategically located across Canada servicing over 250 Kal Tire retail and commercial stores. Caliber’s Valentine Gold Mine in the Central Region of Newfoundland and Labrador, one of the top mining jurisdictions in the world. The Valentine Gold Mine is located in Central Newfoundland, approximately 80km southwest of the mining communities of Millertown and Buchans. When completed, it will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada and a significant contributor to the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Excellence

• Perform tire service on customer equipment, the Kal Tire way.
• Assist mine maintenance staff as required.
• Conduct appropriate maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Maintain appropriate tire inspection and maintenance program.
• Respond to after-hours call-outs as directed by your supervisor.
• Demonstrate and promote best practices and continuous improvement in everything we do.

Operational / Technical

• Dismount and mount tires for a variety of vehicles for the mining tire industry.
• Ensure all tires are mounted safely and according to load requirements.
• Perform equipment checks and calibrations.
• Install and remove wheels from any type of vehicle.
• Mount and demount different types of tire and rim assemblies.
• Balance light vehicle tire and rim assembly.
• Perform repairs to tires and tubes.
• Perform inspections and determine the suitability of wheel components for service.
• Operate heavy-duty tire servicing equipment and tools.
• Conduct maintenance checks and ensure all work complies with Kal Tire's safety standards.
• Complete required reporting and data logging.
• Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe work area.
• Assist in managing inventory for operational requirements.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and requirements.
• Maintain hygiene standards in the facility.
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and behaviors to your supervisor/lead hand.
• Report incidents and injuries according to procedures.
• Assist safety representatives in resolving safety issues.
• Use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
• Perform vehicle pre-start checks.
• Participate in safety meetings and inspections to promote workplace safety.
• Read and acknowledge safety notices and incident reports.
• Follow site emergency evacuation procedures.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Adherence to safety standards, with work performed incident-free.
• Correct and safe use of tire fitting tools and equipment.
• Efficient tire repairs meeting customer needs.
• Contribute to smooth shop operations.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• At least two years of related experience as a tire fitter preferred.
• OTR service training and certifications desired; Tire Fitter Levels 1 & 2 preferred.
• Experience operating and maintaining tire manipulators, forklifts, and service trucks.
• Experience working with safety procedures in daily operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to perform duties safely physically.
• Maintain necessary licenses and certificates for mine site work.
• Mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities.
• Follow all safety procedures diligently.

EDUCATION
