Job summary

Cargojet is seeking a hardworking cargo handler to operate ground support equipment safely and efficiently at our Halifax facility. You will report any equipment issues, follow airport procedures, and handle packages with care, including dangerous goods, while maintaining safety and productivity.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma, can obtain a Transport Canada security clearance, and are able to lift 60 lbs and work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to obtain RAIC security clearance.
• Lift up to 60 lbs repeatedly and work in all weather conditions.
• Must drive, have own reliable transportation, and be able to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operate main deck/lower deck loader safely.
• Operate ground servicing equipment and report abnormalities.
• Follow airport procedures and safety protocols; maintain cleanliness.
• Sort and handle cargo, and communicate counts to supervisors.
• Participate in training modules (WHMIS, Dangerous Goods, etc.).
• Meet time-sensitive deadlines as part of a team.

Primary Objective of the Position:

The chosen candidate will be responsible for operating the main deck/lower deck loader in a safe and proper manner and reporting any equipment damage or potential problems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• To operate any/all ground servicing equipment.
• Report any abnormalities in equipment or equipment performance.
• Stay fluent and on any new equipment or procedures.
• Obey and operate according to all airport procedures.
• To operate any/all equipment for the duration of operation.
• Responsible for any/all equipment. (Condition, fuel, performance).
• Stay up to date on any equipment upgrades, changes, performance and policies.
• Repeated and continuous lifting of packages up to 60lbs.
• Sort packages based on customer, airport of destination, and other parameters.
• Communicate piece counts, and package information to Lead Hands, and Supervisors.
• Handle customer packages, and freight with due care and attention.
• Ensure all safety and security protocols are adhered to.
• Perform general housekeeping duties as required.
• Perform tasks associated with Dangerous Goods Handling/Acceptance.
• Meet time sensitive deadlines for freight build-up/breakdown as part of a team dynamic.
• Learn and apply specific training modules required for position (WHMIS, SMS, Dangerous Goods, Hazard Prevention, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Graduate or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain a RAIC pass (Transport Canada Security Clearance).
• Maintain valid
• Hold a valid driver’s license and have own reliable transportation for shifts off-hour of public transportation.
• Excellent driving skills.
• Ability to drive in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 60lbs repeatedly.
• Ability to work within a “team first” environment, and complete common goals within time sensitive deadlines.
• Excellent punctuality and attendance habits.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to fast changing customer requirements.
• Willingness to take direction with a keen interest in further development within the local operation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexible to work shift work, weekends, and stat holidays.
• Good organizational skills.
