The Operator is responsible for daily operations at the site, ensuring safety and efficiency while supporting the maintenance of equipment. Ideal candidates will have prior industrial experience, valid certifications, and a commitment to safety in challenging work conditions.
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an Operator for our client, a leading provider in the waste management and energy infrastructure sector. With an extensive network across western Canada and parts of the United States, our client operates a range of facilities including waste management sites, industrial landfills, pipeline operations, metals and mining operations, and specialty chemical services. Their energy infrastructure operations focus on blending and facility supply as well as trading and storage solutions.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and safety-minded Operator to join the team on a rotational fly-in / fly-out basis in Fort McMurray. This role is responsible for daily operational activities at site, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and with high attention to housekeeping standards. The Operator will also support the maintenance and upkeep of site equipment and infrastructure. Compliance with all safety protocols and active participation as a member of the site team is essential.
This is a temporary contract role scheduled to end on January 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor control panels and quality control camera systems
Utilize loaders and other heavy equipment for material handling
Monitor and oversee process piping, pumps, and chemical mixing / hydration equipment
Conduct sampling and record process data
Manage Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and Permit to Work (PTW) processes within the risk control framework
Perform equipment operation in accordance with safe work practices
Monitor plant equipment gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure proper operation
Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Uphold and follow all safety standards and procedures
Qualifications & Skills
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous operational or industrial experience required, ideally in the oil & gas sector
Ability to successfully complete drug, alcohol, and fitness testing
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Valid H2S Alive certification
Proficient in operating heavy equipment with various attachments
Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems is an asset
Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
Ability to work both independently and within a team
Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (hot or cold)
14 days on / 14 days off rotational schedule
Fly-in / fly-out from Calgary or Edmonton to the work site
