Job summary

Dyno Nobel Canada is seeking an experienced Operations Training Lead to deliver hands-on and classroom training across blasting sites, roadways, and classrooms, aligning with the Academy Training program strategy. You will partner with Health & Safety and Nobel Academies to embed competency-based training, ensure regulatory compliance, and coach teams to uphold safety and performance standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years working experience in explosives or related operations.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient computer literacy with MS Office suite.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Train and coach employees to safely follow SOPs in preparing and detonating explosives and operating equipment.
  • Collaborate with Health & Safety to ensure safety requirements are included in training documents and programs.
  • Proactively handle safety issues and support safety targets; promote risk assessment tools.
  • Interface with Nobel Academies and Learning & Development to integrate training programs into a training management system.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations and report near-misses, incidents, and hazards.
  • Attend and deliver company-required training and HSE programs.
  • Interact with Region and Site Managers to facilitate competency-based training.

What You'll Do:
  • Train and coach employees to safely follow the standard operating procedures in preparing and detonating explosives and operating equipment to achieve the Company standards and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Health & Safety team to ensure all operational health and safety requirements are included in training documents and programs.
  • Proactively handle safety issues and support Sales and Service targets for LTI’s, MTI’s, TRI’s, FAI’s, and CAR’s. Support the implementation and use of risk assessment tools to promote personal responsibility for safety.
  • Close interface with Nobel Academies, Learning & Development group to effectively incorporate Training Program into a training management system.
  • Comply with all applicable Dyno Nobel, federal, state and region regulations, and governing agencies.
  • Report all near-misses, incidents and hazardous conditions to appropriate supervisors.
  • Attend and deliver company-required training and HSE programs.
  • Comply with appropriate areas of the HSE Management System and DN Engineering Standards.
  • Actively comply with applicable regulatory health and safety policies and practices in order to ensure personal safety and the safety of employees, company assets, environment, and regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledgeable in all Operations functions

  • Interact with Nobel Academies to ensure consistency in the use of competency training for employees.Serve as resource supporting Nobel Academy Managers and Health and Safety Advisors for operational and Health and safety issues regarding field operations and products.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in area of responsibility or equivalent education, training, and experience.Advanced training qualifications.
  • Minimum 7 years working experience in the explosives industry or related areas (i.e. bulk truck operations, de-watering operations and blasting operations).
  • Working knowledge of relevant Company and regulatory ( NRCan , MOT, CCOHS, Federal/Provincial/Territorial Mining, common Core Modules for Ontario) regulations standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Sound computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • May be required to perform technical evaluations and field support for Nobel Academies and products.
  • Ability to determine basic geology and seismology.
  • Ability to write and edit training documents.
  • Ability to complete training courses and then conduct these same courses throughout the business.
  • Thorough knowledge of Competency Standards, Technical and commercial modules, Common Core, Surface Blasting SOP, DN products, chemical sensitization, delivery equipment, procedures
  • Significant knowledge and experience in competency-based training systems and first-hand experience in their implementation and auditing.
