DHL Express currently has an opening for an Operations Supervisor – Gateway at our facility in Mount Hope, ON.
The Operations Supervisor provides hands-on, proactive management of employees engaged in the daily export, clearance, and transit of packages and freight, within prescribed standards of cost, efficiency, accuracy, and on-time distribution. The supervisor implements new procedures to improve operational effectiveness and provides performance reports for management. Responsible for activities related to timely, safe loading and dispatch of DHL Aircraft in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Recruits, orients, trains, schedules, manages and recommends discipline for all operations staff
- Establishes and implements productivity, quality and cost measurements and strategies to achieve desired operational results
- Ensures timely and accurate distribution of inbound and/or outgoing freight daily, in accordance with established standards and procedures
- Ensures compliance with regulatory bodies and regulations related to ground and air transportation of goods and loading and dispatching trailers and trucks
- Ensures load planning and security of all equipment and vehicles used
- Ensures staff permits and ground operation audits are up to date
- Completes accurate and timely reports for management (staff schedules, attendance records, recruitment/payroll documentation, dangerous goods incidents, WSIB reports, load quality, arrival/departure)
- Ensures successful implementation and continued application of scanning technology
- Applies appropriate leadership and management style with open communication to motivate staff
- Ensures sufficient staff resources, materials and supplies on hand at all times
- Ensures warehouse is organized and set up for next shift
- Maintains equipment in safe, efficient operating condition at all times
- Establishes and maintains a proactive safety program in compliance with legislative requirements and the collective agreement
- Implements and follows up on Customer Service solutions
- Addresses customer complaints and escalated items in a professional, expedient manner
Requirements
- Experience working with Canada Customs
- Experience managing operations with components of ground or air transportation regulations
- 3 years' warehouse/on-road operations experience in courier or similar industries
- Knowledge and compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations
- Prior working experience with lean/process improvement initiatives
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven communication skills – written and oral
- Working knowledge and interpretation of Collective Agreements and Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Demonstrated drive, initiative and flexibility to ensure task completion
- Demonstrated time management and organization skills
- College or University designation
- Must be available for flexible shift timings
3 years of warehouse or on-road operations experience in courier or similar industries; experience with Canada Customs; knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations; working knowledge of Collective Agreements and Occupational Health & Safety Act; College or University designation
