Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking an Operations Supervisor in Coquitlam, BC to manage day-to-day transportation operations, review budgets, and plan service lines for cost-effective balance between service and cost. You will ensure regulatory compliance and guide drivers on safety and performance.

The role requires coordinating with dispatch, maintaining vehicle readiness, and training drivers while upholding safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory experience in operations.
• Experience operating Side loaders, ASL, Rear Packers, Over the Tops, Front End and Roll Off vehicles.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and Highway Traffic Act.
• Valid driver's license with clean abstract.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and monitor annual equipment budget within approved limits.
• Coordinate between dispatch and drivers for daily schedules and service needs.
• Conduct regular driver reviews and route rides.
• Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations with residents.
• Organize and approve driver vacation requests.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and manage vendors or alternate supply chains.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper upkeep of all units and safety devices.
• Maintain a healthy and safe working environment; report issues to supervisor.
• Deliver company policy, systems, and safety training to drivers.
• Perform accident investigations and arrange driver training on service requirements.

GFL Environmental is looking for a Operations Supervisor to join our team in Coquitlam, BC! The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the Company’s transportation requirements and patterns. They will review and process day to day operations, evaluate and recommend equipment needs, and plan and schedule appropriate service lines to maintain a cost-effective balance between customer service and cost of service. They will ensure compliance with all government related programs specific to mode and direction of related haulage.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with and recommend annual equipment budget; implement and monitor the budget within approved limits.
• Act as a direct liaison between dispatch and drivers to ensure information regarding daily schedules, equipment and service requirements is efficiently relayed.
• Conduct regular driver reviews and mandatory route-rides.
• Attain all the necessary information regarding any issues by maintaining courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations with residents.
• Organizing and approving driver vacation requests.
• Maintain inventory of all necessary supplies and products required for service which may include sourcing multiple vendors or alternate supply chains.
• Direct communication with other departments to ensure proper ongoing service and upkeep of all units including safety devices, vehicle lighting, warning devices, fittings, safety supplies.
• Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all workers, reporting any issues immediately to your direct supervisor.
• Ensure company policy, systems, and industry related training is delivered to all drivers.
• Perform Accident Investigations when company vehicles are involved in traffic accidents.
• Provide or arrange training for drivers to ensure they are properly servicing customers based on established requirements.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean drivers abstract.
• Minimum 2-3 years supervisory experience along with experience working with Side loaders, ASL, Rear Packers, Over the Tops, Front End, and Roll Off vehicles.
• General understanding of, WHMIS, and the Highway Traffic Act.
• Able to perform a pre and post trip inspection and accident investigations.
• Previous operations, transportation, waste management experience preferred.
• Proficient with database, spreadsheet, and word processing computer skills within a Microsoft environment.
• Willing to work flexible hours with some travel.
• Recruit, interview, hire, train and performance manage all product line personnel.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to plan, prioritize and execute against tight timelines.
• Promote the companies safety program that seeks to prevent accidents, avoid injuries, and recognize safe employees.
• Investigate accidents and prepare necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
• Ensure route observations are completed on a routine basis.
• Schedule, plan, and conduct safety meetings (Weekly).-Toolbox talks/Uploaded to Safety program
