Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or LTL operations.

  • Strong understanding of LTL transportation, freight movement, dock operations, dispatch, scheduling, and customer service.
  • Experience with labour planning, performance management, and employee coaching.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the terminal, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely movement of freight while meeting service and productivity expectations.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to Dispatchers, Operations Coordinators, and Dockworkers, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily operational activities, including inbound/outbound freight, dock operations, dispatch, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor operational performance, staffing levels, and workflow throughout the day, making adjustments to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain employee schedules to support operational demands while effectively managing labour costs.
  • Lead performance management activities, including coaching, performance reviews, attendance management, discipline, and employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, health and safety standards, transportation regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Partner with the Terminal Manager to implement operational initiatives, improve efficiencies, and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Analyze operational metrics and KPIs, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, service performance, and overall operational effectiveness.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues, customer concerns, and service failures in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate personnel and equipment utilization to maximize productivity and ensure service commitments are achieved.
  • Maintain operational records, reports, communication logs, and documentation required to support efficient terminal operations.
  • Foster open communication across Operations, Customer Service, Safety, and other departments to ensure seamless execution of daily operations.
  • Ensure employees complete all required training, including mandatory regulatory or company training.
  • Support employee onboarding, training, and ongoing development to build a high-performing operations team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Operations Manager leads a fast-paced operation, ensuring freight moves accurately and on time leveraging internal staff capabilities and coordinating with drivers and equipment to achieve operational excellence.
