Poly-Nova Technologies in Guelph is hiring a Machine Operator & Back up Lead Hand for the night shift. Full-time, Sunday to Friday mornings, 10:50pm–7:00am, with pay range $20.08–$22.11/hr plus $1.20/hr shift premium; lead hand duties fetch $22.11–$24.59/hr when performing lead responsibilities.

You will operate injection molding machines, ensure safety and quality, and support the supervisor with daily scheduling and material flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Commitment to SOPs and EH&S standards.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions and quality alerts.
• Attention to detail with focus on quality.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to operate press equipment, automated and manual.

Responsibilities

Machine Operator and Back up Lead Hand – Night Shift

Shift: Full-Time, Sunday to Friday morning
Hours: 10:50pm to 7:00am

Pay Range: $20.08hr to $22.11 per hour plus $1.20/hr shift premium. The lead hand rate of $22.11hr to $24.59 is paid only when you are performing the duties of Lead Hand.

Position Overview

Machine Operators play a critical role in ensuring safety, quality, and continuous improvement at Poly-Nova Technologies. We are currently seeking a full-time Machine Operator that will be trained as Lead Hand on the Night Shift.

This is an open position.

Key Responsibilities

• Load press/machine with correct rubber
• Operate injection molding machines and presses
• Closely inspect parts within cycle time by following quality inspection instructions and alerts, removing flash
• Complete shift paperwork: machine logs, scrap sheets, production reports, etc
• Package finished parts as per required quantity; label and prepare for shipping, place on skid
• Notify Supervisor or Lead Hand of any unusual amounts of scrap, including new/unusual defects
• Maintain traceability and identification of parts by confirming correct labels are placed on boxes
• Ensure fabric is pulled and sprues are inspected for mold foul, or orther rubber related issues

General Tasks (if relevant)

• Maintain accurate records related to the activity of the shift
• Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives
• Communication of any issues during shift overlap to incoming Machine Operator
• General housekeeping: sweeping area, removing build-up of rubber and parts spillage in work area

Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

• High school (Secondary School) diploma
• 1+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with SOPs and EH&S standards.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, policies, memos, and quality alerts.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and consistency.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Competent to operate press equipment: automated and manual

Physical & Technical Requirements

• General mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to wear required PPE
• Ability to lift 15-35 lbs (full cases of product and insert trays).
• Ability to stand for extended periods, with opportunities to sit during inspection tasks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

In the lead hand role, you will support the Production Supervisor in the efficient operation of the production shift by coordinating daily work activities, monitoring material flow, and ensuring machine operators have the necessary materials, documentation, and support to meet production requirements. This role provides coverage for operators during breaks, communicates production and safety issues, troubleshoots day-to-day operational concerns, promotes safe work practices and good manufacturing standards, and helps maintain organization and cleanliness on the production floor. The Lead Hand also assists with mold changes, inventory rotation, workstation preparation, and serves as a backup to the Production Supervisor when required.
