Join the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) – one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned educational institution. The OSC is currently looking for a Group Lead of Operations to join the Exhibit Support Team.
About the job
As the Group Lead of Operations, you will:
• oversee the exhibit maintenance and cleaning staff, and coordinate and supervise daily maintenance, preventive maintenance, and major maintenance activities related to exhibits and incoming shows
• work with various shops (wood, metal, graphics, electronics, and electrical) to ensure exhibits operate at a 97% operational level
• organize, coordinate, supervise, and plan support activities for internal and external clients, including developing, building, assembling, cleaning, and repairing a variety of exhibits, staging, signage, and electronic/electrical support
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• ability to work weekends, statutory holidays, and travel occasionally
Technical knowledge and experience
• extensive experience in exhibit fabrication, maintenance, cleaning and repair
• demonstrated ability to operate machine tools and equipment for exhibit production and maintenance, and to achieve operational goals while implementing safety protocols and standards
• practical knowledge and understanding of associated trades such as plastics and composites fabrication, structural and mechanical considerations, as well as production methodologies in a manufacturing process
• demonstrates understanding of Ontario Health and Safety standards for practicing safe operations when using equipment, tools, and machinery as well as other relevant regulations
• extensive knowledge of materials and component parts for unique applications in the design, fabrication and exhibit support process
Prototyping and problem-solving skills
• mathematical skills for complex calculations and accurate measurements
• problem-solving skills to efficiently identify and resolve work-related issues, maintaining knowledge of recurring problems and solutions. Manual dexterity for high standards of precision and finish
• logistics capabilities for managing the location of exhibits and their requirements as well as the set up and strike of exhibits, exhibitions and special projects
Communication and interpersonal skills
• strong oral and written communication skills
• ability to lead teams and foster good working relationships; to deal effectively with designers, draftsperson, skilled trades people and other staff
• ability to teach and train employees
