Job summary

Transdev Canada in Kelowna is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead daily transit operations, develop frontline teams, and strengthen safety culture. You will ensure reliable service, coordinate dispatch and scheduling, manage vendors, and collaborate with Maintenance, Safety, HR, and Finance to optimize performance.

Qualifications

  • Three to five or more years of leadership experience in facilities management, operations, transportation, property management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing buildings, grounds, maintenance activities, contractors, or service vendors.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, building systems, security systems, and general facility-repair practices.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safe work practices and ensure facility and operational activities comply with company policies, legislative requirements, and client expectations.
  • Ensure contractors and vendors follow site safety, security, access, and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the building and yard, identify deficiencies, and coordinate timely corrective action.
  • Manage facility service providers and vendors, including alarm and security companies, landscapers, snow-removal contractors, cleaners, waste-management providers, pest-control companies, tradespeople, and general repair contractors.
  • Coordinate routine repairs and general maintenance involving plumbing, electrical systems, heating and ventilation, lighting, doors, locks, fencing, pavement, signage, and other building or yard infrastructure.
  • Act as the main point of contact with BC Transit
  • Ensure compliance with all inspection deadlines
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, service calls, repairs, warranties, vendor agreements, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Manage building access, keys, alarm systems, security procedures, and vendor access requirements.
  • Oversee daily transit operations, including dispatch, service monitoring, staffing coordination, and operational problem-solving.
  • Help ensure service operates on time and employees have the information, equipment, and facilities needed to succeed.
  • Provide hands-on support to dispatch, scheduling, and frontline operations when required.
  • Lead and develop Transit Supervisors and frontline employees.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and employee development.
  • Address employee-relations matters fairly, consistently, and professionally.
  • Support scheduling, routing, and staffing activities to maintain reliable and efficient service.
  • Monitor operational performance, investigate service disruptions, resolve customer concerns, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to support effective operations.
  • Step into broader leadership responsibilities when required, including supporting or acting on behalf of the General Manager.
  • Contribute ideas and continuous-improvement initiatives that strengthen facility performance, operational reliability, employee experience, and customer service.
  • Support labour-relations activities within a unionized environment.

Transdev Canada is hiring an Operations Manager for our Kelowna location

What you'll do

Your Profile

  • Strong vendor-management skills, including obtaining quotes, defining work requirements, scheduling services, monitoring performance, and reviewing invoices.
  • Experience in transportation, fleet operations, dispatch, scheduling, or public transit is preferred.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee-development skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, service requests, vendors, and deadlines.
  • Practical problem-solving and sound decision-making abilities in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, budgeting, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety requirements, emergency procedures, and contractor safety practices.
  • Comfortable responding to urgent operational or facility matters outside regular business hours when necessary.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required. A Class 2 licence with air-brake endorsement would be considered an asset.

Location and schedule
  • Kelowna, BC.
