Job summary

Keyera is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer to support Empress I-V and Empress VI facilities about 100 km from Medicine Hat, Alberta. The role involves daily engineering support and collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Integrity, and Projects.

The candidate should have a University degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and a P.Eng in Alberta, with 5+ years of relevant experience, including midstream facilities and MOC procedures.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) in Alberta is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with natural gas processing, fractionation, natural gas liquids, compression or midstream facilities is preferred.
  • Experience with MOC, process hazard analysis, and risk assessment is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skills.
  • Self-starter able to work independently in a multi-disciplined team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to Maintenance, Operations, and Integrity.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) with facility stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with vendors and engineering firms to solve problems and resolve design issues.
  • Design Issue for Construction packages addressing HSE, reliability, cost, and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide project management support for capital and OPEX projects from conception to completion.
  • Oversee EPCs for detailed engineering as required.

Role/Location Specific

The POSITION

Keyera is currently seeking an Operations Engineer to support the Empress I-V and Empress VI facilities, located approximately 100 km from Medicine Hat, Alberta. The Operations Engineer will serve as a key technical resource for the facilities, providing day-to-day engineering support and working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Integrity, Technical Services, Projects, and external engineering partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to Maintenance, Operations, and Integrity.
  • Actively participate in the management of change (MOC) process in conjunction with facility stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with vendors, engineering firms, and subject matter experts to solve problems and resolve design issues.
  • Utilize engineering skills to design Issue for Construction packages that address: HSE and reliability concerns, optimization/pay-out justification, project scheduling, cost control, tender/bid packages, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and authenticate technical drawings and documentation including: piping isometrics, line designation tables, and code calculations.
  • Provide project management support for capital and OPEX projects from conception to completion (options identification & evaluation, process hazard analysis, funding request, detailed engineering, manage and report on cost and schedule during construction, resolve RFI’s).
  • Utilize and oversee EPCs for detailed engineering as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P. Eng) in Alberta.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant engineering experience, preferably in an operating facility environment.
  • Experience supporting natural gas processing, fractionation, natural gas liquids, compression, or other midstream facilities is preferred.
  • Experience with Management of Change, process hazard analysis, risk assessment, engineering work-package development is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pressure equipment, piping systems, rotating equipment, process systems, and facility reliability would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with applicable Alberta legislation, regulations, engineering requirements, industry codes, and technical standards.
  • Experience supporting facility turnarounds, outages, construction, commissioning, or start-up activities would be an asset.
  • A strong background in facility and equipment reliability along with a mechanical aptitude would be an asset.
  • Creativity in developing and evaluating alternate solutions to realize business opportunities within Keyera.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and recommend the optimal solution.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skills.
  • Is a self-starter who is able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Has a demonstrated ability to perform successfully in a multi-disciplined work team environment.
