Job summary

Kaizen Lab Inc. is seeking an Operations Business Analyst to support Operations, Production Engineering and Joint Venture through operational and financial analysis in Calgary.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with in-office presence, and a focus on data integrity and process improvements. The candidate will develop reporting on production and capital costs, support budgeting/forecasting and ensure accurate cost allocation across ownership interests.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in oil and gas operations, joint venture, production accounting or financial analysis.
• Experience interpreting joint venture agreements and cost recovery provisions.
• Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze data for decision-making.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Develop reporting and analysis on production, operating, and capital costs to identify trends and opportunities.

Operations Business Analyst – Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Production Engineering & Joint Venture, the Operations Business Analyst supports Operations, Production Engineering and Joint Venture through operational business and joint venture analysis. This role is responsible for operational, production and financial performance review, reporting and insights to support business decisions.

The Operations Business Analyst plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of operational, production, and financial data while identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance business performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, analytical capability, and experience interpreting joint venture agreements, combined with a curious, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.

This is a full-time position based in our Calgary office. Canlin provides a flexible working environment with the opportunity to work remotely up to one day per week.

Location: Calgary Head Office (237 4 Avenue SW).

The Role

• Develop reporting and perform analysis on production, operating, and capital costs to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and efficiencies.
• Support forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and business reviews by providing meaningful insights and recommendations.
• Review operated and non-operated assets to ensure costs, revenues, and volumes are allocated in accordance with ownership interests and governing agreements.
• Review invoices and partner billings, validate compliance with governing agreements, and identify cost recovery opportunities, pursuing recoveries and corrective actions where appropriate.
• Support internal, external, and partner audits through the collection and analysis of supporting documentation.
• Identify, investigate, analyze, and resolve data discrepancies and anomalies.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Land, Marketing, and Development teams to resolve issues, improve data quality, and support decision-making.
• Act as a liaison with Field Operations, Engineering, Joint Venture and Accounting teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting capabilities.
• Maintain accurate documentation, procedures, and records supporting operational and financial controls.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.

The Person

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in operations, joint venture, production accounting or financial analysis.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Exposure to both operation and financial functions is considered an asset.
• Experience interpreting joint venture agreements, partner billings, and cost recovery provisions is preferred.
• Strong financial acumen, business analysis skills, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, interpret contractual obligations, and recommend practical solutions.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships with both office and field stakeholders.
• Independent, self-motivated worker with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment within established deadlines.
