Job summary

Alterna Savings and Credit Union Limited (Alterna) has posted a new Operational Risk & Controls Manager role to strengthen risk governance and ensure effective control execution across day-to-day activities in Canada. The role focuses on maintaining risk matrices, monitoring KPIs/KRIs, and coordinating incident reporting within a regulated environment.

You will partner with business leaders to embed risk practices, drive remediation, and contribute to the overall risk framework and culture.

Qualifications

• Preferred University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Economics, or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years’ experience in financial services
• 3–5 years' experience in operations, risk and controls
• Strong process and control mindset
• Experience working within regulated environments
• Demonstrated experience facilitating risk assessments, managing remediation programs, and preparing executive-level reporting.
• Experience working within risk governance frameworks
• Knowledge of regulatory expectations applicable to federally or provincially regulated financial institutions

Responsibilities

• Maintain business risk and control matrices (RCMs)
• Support consistent execution and documentation of controls
• Monitor control performance and identify gaps
• Track and report on KPIs and KRIs to monitor risk exposure and emerging trends
• Coordinate incident and breach reporting
• Support business implementation of policies and procedures
• Partner with business leaders to embed risk management practices
• Contribute to the establishment and implementation of the risks framework for the business unit(s)
• Support audit, compliance, and regulatory remediation activities, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions
• Risk and control assessments are completed effectively and on schedule
• Key risk indicators are monitored and reported with actionable insights
• Strong engagement and accountability from business leaders regarding risk ownership.
• Positive regulatory and audit outcomes.
• Continued advancement of Alterna's operational risk management maturity and risk culture.
