What will you be doing!

  • Developing and implementing Radiation Protection (RP) controls, processes and procedures.
  • Completing radiological safety and dose assessments.
  • Performing As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and post-work ALARA assessments and reviews.
  • Reviewing design documents.
  • Reviewing and approving requests to release material and personnel involved in contamination events out of the Controlled Area.
  • Documenting justification and ALARA reviews for exceptions to RP Program requirements.
  • Completing reviews for pregnancy declaration and medical needs.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and/or approving radiological work plans/procedures, radioisotope laboratory protocol, employee dose control points, and indoor radioactive material storage areas.
  • Reviewing the selection and procurement of radiation and contamination measuring and monitoring equipment.
  • Completing shielding calculations.
  • Providing training and presentations on RP topics.
  • Assisting in developing, implementing and maintaining radiation protection performance models and metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • A Bachelor's (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing (e.g. nuclear engineering, medical health physics); or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • Experience
    • Related scientific working experience would be an asset in radiation protection instrumentation, gamma spectroscopy, or radiation physics.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards.
    • Knowledge and understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment and techniques used in theory and practice.
    • Knowledgeable in radiation protection instrumentation, gamma spectroscopy, and radiation physics.
    • Excellent written skills applied to writing reports and correspondence.
    • Effective public speaking skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
    • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet objectives and targets, and demonstrated good use of time.
    • Capable in Microsoft software (i.e., MS Excel, Word, and Access).
    • Ability to correctly interpret and make decisions based on established requirements, procedures and practices.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to wear protective clothing and work in a hazardous environment.
  • Perform job walk-downs.
  • Capable of travel within Canada and abroad to visit other sites, training, and industry benchmarking and consultation.
