Job description

What will you be doing!

  • Analyzing and solving problems using standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or previously developed methods.
  • Planning to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Making independent studies, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions.
  • Problem solving involving experimental laboratory work, mathematical modelling, or paper feasibility studies.
  • Giving presentations to customers and contributing to technical journals.
  • Providing technical input on funding requests for capital equipment and client requirements documents for new equipment and software.
  • Providing technical duties of the Internal Dosimetry Services Supervisor as a delegate when required.
  • Providing recommendations on the resolution of non-conformances as well as recovering from extent of condition.
  • Providing lead on the development of analytical methods ensuring that requirements are met associated with quality assurance plan.
  • Ensuring documentation is current for correct and safe work practices, Quality Assurance processes and company-wide directives.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
    • Education in health physics, radiation physics or related field is considered as asset.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of five (5) years of pertinent experience or its equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training resulting in a sound knowledge of dosimetry, radiation physics, or health physics.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Radioactive standard traceability, detection of radiation and the operation of instrumentation components such as scintillators, solid state detectors and photo multiplier tubes.
    • Understanding of internal dosimetry models (Intake, Systemic, and Dosimetry).
    • Extensive knowledge in operational quantities, effective dose, equivalent dose, physical and chemical properties of radionuclides as it pertains to internal dosimetry models.
    • Ease in application of first order dynamics to solve a variety of problems, including computational methods for models that include feedback mechanisms that do not have closed form analytical solutions.
    • Strong communication skills both oral and written with particular focus on scientific reports and presentation of complex information to recipients having diverse levels of understanding (industry peers to laymen).
    • Skills and abilities pertaining to project management.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for working in a team environment and interfacing with customers.
    • Computer skills using products such as Word and Excel are essential for report writing and data analysis; more advanced skills are considered an asset.
    • An understanding of the principles of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control is desired, as dosimetry operates under a QA plan.
    • Knowledge pertaining to metrology and the operation of primary and secondary calibration laboratories considered an asset.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Location:

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. CNL’s Chalk River laboratory is nestled in the Ottawa Valley and affords our employees an area that is environmentally pristine with extensive forests, hills and numerous small lakes, all of which support a variety of wildlife typical to the southern edge of the Canadian Shield.
