The Role

We are seeking an Operational Due Diligence (ODD) Associate Analyst to join our team in Toronto. This role is ideal for new graduates or early-career professionals interested in alternative investments and operational risk identification.

In this role, you will support the assessment of non-investment operational risks within investment managers' businessesand help prepare written research reports for clients. You will also be at the forefront of the AI transition by assisting with transformation of the function. Responsibilities

As an Operational Due Diligence Associate Analyst, you will:

  • Support the evaluation of assigned alternative investment managers, with a particular focus on analyzing operational risk and internal controls. Responsibilities include examining documentation, reviewing staff and organizational structure, and assessing information systems and technology infrastructure.
  • Review and interpret alternative investment fund financial statements,offering documents, and other fund literature to create investment recommendations for clients.
  • Coordinate with fund service providers to obtain necessary documentation and conduct reference checks.
  • Attend onsite and virtual ODD meetings with alternative investment managers along with Analysts and Senior Analysts for the purposes of note taking, learning, and risk identification.
  • Monitor assigned funds on an ongoing basis and update due diligence reports as needed.
  • Ensure information within internal databases is kept up to date and current.
  • Analyze data trends using data mining techniques to support due diligence insights and reporting.
  • Liaise with clients and investment managers to respond to ODD-related inquiries.
  • Assist with drafting content for client newsletters, internal platforms, and white papers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation, review, and delivery of client-facing materials.
  • Participate in project work to enhance the due diligence process and broader company initiatives.
  • Support the development and sharing of best practices for ODD by participating in internal discussions and facilitating knowledge transfer within the ODD team, as well as among clients and investment managers.
  • Work on other ad hoc projects from time to time upon request, including projects utilizing AI tools or advanced analytics.

Desired Qualifications

  • University graduate or equivalent
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proactive self-starter with strong time management and multitasking skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams
  • Experience using AI tools or platforms such as Microsoft Copilot is considered an asset
  • Possession of, or progression toward, a relevant professional qualification (e.g., CFA, CAIA, CPA) is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of data mining and data science methodologies is considered as asset, as is any coding experience using tools such as VBA, R, Power BI, or Python
  • Knowledge of alternative fund strategies/structures and U.S. GAAP is an asset
  • Relevant internship or professional experience is considered an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the U.S. and internationally, as required
  • Ability to comply with terms of Albourne Compliance Manuals
