About the Total Portfolio Management Group

Led by the Chief Investment Officer, the Total Portfolio Management group oversees trading, liquidity, strategy, analytics, and capital allocation, working closely with investment teams to refine portfolio construction and evolve investment strategies.

Role overview

Reporting to the Director, Portfolio Strategy, the Analyst or Senior Analyst supports the development of OMERS' investment and portfolio strategies, including investment approach refinement, portfolio design, performance evaluation, and market research.

Responsibilities

1. Develop and oversee a 3-year CIO Strategy aligned with OMERS' broader goals, focusing on investment strategy, approach, portfolio design, and operational improvements.
2. Implement OMERS' long-term currency management strategy, including setting objectives and monitoring.
3. Collaborate with investment units on strategic priorities and ad-hoc projects.
4. Analyze and review investment operating models periodically.
5. Conduct research on global peers, strategies, benchmarks, and asset allocation to generate strategic insights.
6. Prepare in-depth analyses and presentations on asset mix, strategies, and performance to inform decision-making.
7. Summarize complex analyses into clear messages for stakeholders.
8. Engage with teams across OMERS to enhance understanding of investment strategies.
9. Share insights and collaborate to optimize outcomes for the pension plan.
10. Mentor junior team members to foster growth within the team.

Qualifications

1. 2-6 years of experience in portfolio or investment management, consulting, or financial services; pension fund or asset management experience is a plus.
2. Strong knowledge of asset allocation, portfolio analysis, and investment operations.
3. Advanced data analysis skills, especially with Excel.
4. Proficiency in PowerPoint and excellent communication skills.
5. Understanding of strategic planning and investment business models.
6. Ability to synthesize complex topics into presentations for senior management.
7. Familiarity with financial databases like FactSet and Bloomberg is advantageous.
8. Proactive with a results-oriented mindset.
